That male was keen for more than chow and didn't like the fact that the lioness was more keen on sleeping \O

23rd Lower Sabie continued

It was now around lunchtime so we decided it was time to leave the S79 sleeping leopard in peace and head back to camp, however we stopped again on the H4-1 around 2km from the causeway because a little female leopard was sleeping curled up in the base of a tree just off the road.

It was impossible to get a decent clear shot through all the twigs which created massive frustration and the number of cars full of clueless people stopping added to the mood, so we continued on towards camp, but stopped again at Lubyelubye rocks because lions were relaxing all over the place.

We only got back into camp after 1pm, so everybody needed some time out of the car, therefore the Cow and I charged cameras, dumped photos, etc, while the Rats went to the shop and missioned around camp.

We eventually left on an afternoon drive just before 5pm and the plan was to go back to the S79 11km away to see if that leopard had finally decided to chow.

Something concerning caught my eye as we drove past the Lower Sabie camping area as 2 Indian Mynas were cooling off next to the road. I also believe that there’s even a semi tame beggar Myna hanging around Letaba restaurant. Sanparks need to act on this issue before these Mynas establish themselves in the park.

Just past Sunset Dam we spotted Heksie and mates stopped next to the road, so I pulled in next to them for a tune and Heksie advised that there was a leopard lying in a bush just below the road.

We had already seen the leopard as we approached but its butt was semi in the bush and it was looking away from us, so I didn’t get excited because any movement from the leopard would have been a better view than the current view.

The Sanparks sunset drive, which was parked off at Sunset Dam as we drove past, now arrived, pushed past me and stopped to totally block the road which mildly irritated me, but then some shrieking loud voices started and it was our terrorist neighbours boys so it was my turn to lose it.

“Hey, shut up!”

This got the Cow going

“You can’t say that to them”, “We score as they won’t be in camp until later, so calm down.”

I couldn’t stay where we were because there was going to be a drama shortly, so I reversed back down the road to where we had first spotted the leopard and switched off as we actually had a better view from this location.

The leopard didn’t seem to like the fact that we had plotted a spot where we could look him in the eyes and he seemed to be getting nervous, however eventually he calmed down and went back to sleep.

The Sanparks drive had moved on by now, so we signalled Heksie and continued on towards the S79, but stopped briefly again at Lubyelubye for a male lion snoozing.

The S79 leopard was still ^&*#*# sleeping on the same branch. There was only 1 other car there and we knew the driver fairly well as he’s another “leopard searcher” so we have become mates over the years. He informed us that we had just missed the leopard having a chow which gave us all pelicans.

It had been a dark cloudy cold windy day, but now it seemed to be getting even colder, so we said our goodbyes and headed back towards Lower Sabie. I even had to close my window which I never do because my wingnut was starting to freeze off.

We stopped again at Lubyelubye as some lion cubs had moved onto the rocks, however it was almost impossible to take a pic and nearly time to head to camp for gate closing, so after a few proof pic attempts we continued on to camp.

Later that evening I was relaxing next to our braai when suddenly the Rats and the Cow started shrieking their heads off while on the way to the ablutions, so I went to investigate.

Albert had stood on a pile of foliage at the base of a tree and a mouse had jumped out which caused a massive skrik, but then the mouse got stalked for a pic.

We finished with the braai and had just sat down to eat in peace when, much to my horror, our neighbours arrived home from the Sunset drive and only started their fire at 8pm, so I knew that they would only feed the terrorists after 9pm.

“Cow, should I offer them all our coals”

“No, why?”

“So that the parents can cook, feed and get rid of them!”

We were all tired anyway and our EH aircon acted like a noisy fan which drowned out most of the noise, so we cruised into the unit and closed the door.

To be continued

At the end of this report, I would like an exact head count of leopards as in different animals.
I totally lost track but it's probably just what we did - only with a cheetah in our case lol

Terrorists... I'm surprised the forum let us use the word here at all =O:

Oh, and another pelican :-0

No problem, Bushcraft,

I do love leopards but they obviously are not that willing to pose for us \O I am always happy when other people do have luck in finding them O/\ O/\ O/\

Great shots of the lions on the rocks and those horrible loud neighbours is also a horror for me O/ O/ O/

The golf club restaurant sound more and more a must for me as I do not need a waiter service overall the meal should taste good and we should be filled up lol lol lol

Ja, still cats around which I found very surprising as it normally goes very quiet, but it gets colder and it does get quieter all round, but we hit a few lucks \O
