From Floods and Surprises in River beds

To see that big area without grass much be a depressing experience. Luckily it was nice and green, when I was there

I like the Ground Hornbill feeding the chick , as well as so many of your other bird sightings.

Nice captures of the ellie flinging mud

Photos make such a difference in the sun, with the green kinda glowing.
And the animals look even prettier against it.

I like that ground hornbill chick too - even if it doesn't sport the vivid red of the adults yet.
It's still pretty in its own way.

And I like that last zebra shot a lot

Whole herds of aminals, Pumbaa!

So different to see the area so green, just as my trips are so bone-dry!

I only see that are bone dry during the year of the drought - Luckily it can still be extreme green when there was enough rain

Wow, it looks hot!! Can see why the ellie was enjoying the mud so much!

It was hot but it was already hotter but it was that hot that we at least saw enough

Finally the rain and the dark clouds disappeared and only sunshine was left

Needless to say that many zebras had youngsters

and we also discovered white storks and a lone tsessebe between all the zebras and wildebeests – unfortunately this was the only one we saw at Tihongonyeni that close this year

but therefore elephant bulls were around too

and for sure the ever present zebras.

After a while we carried on and saw at N’wambu in the distance more elephants disappearing in the lush and green vegetation

and to our delight we also came across a lanner falcon indeed a bird species we did not see that often in Kruger.

After a short toiled break in Mopani camp we decided to utilize the time until it was time to check in at the Shipandani causeway which finally turned out to be a longer stay as the water was still flowing strongly over same and on top we must have had luck as only recently this causeway was still closed which we have been told by a man in another car.

For sure the usual waterbirds were around such as yellow billed stork, egret, hamerkop and marabou stork
