A Quick trip to Kruger during Covid-19

Post by RogerFraser »

As luck would have it I managed to grab two nights in the park just as the interprovincial travel was allowed and I had to travel for work to Gauteng and to Mkhuhlu just close to Hazeyview .

This will be a quick TR run through of the trip sightings ...

On entering at Phabeni gate we came across this youngster and his mom .

We headed to Pretoriuskop only getting lost once onto a unmarked service road on the S3 O** :O^ and got checked in and left for a drive .

After spending some time at a local water spot with an unmentioned animal we enjoyed the late sunsetting .
Image

Close to camp we watch this young Hyena that seemed to have some issues as it wondered around and even ran straight into a parked car .Not sure if it was blind or just had some other issues .

it was late so we went back to camp and started the braai . The camp was rather quiet even though apparently fully booked to the 50% limit there was only one other unit occupied anywhere close to us and we basically had the whole ablutions to ourselves ... O**

The following day we decided to take a page out of R.P. book and do waterhole crawl on the way to Malelane camp our next booking.

At Shilthave dam we cam across some feathers ...

Image

and a older juvenile Fish eagle

Image

this Impala appeared out the bushes by itself had a drink then got a huge fright when the Fish eagle moved and ran off ..
Image

We left and travelled towards our next stop Transport Dam. Along the way we met this handsome guy and spent some time with him ...
Image

Image

We left him to finish his breakfast and carried on to the dam.

On the access road we found a very pregnant Hyena Image

At the dam a large herd of Impala were coming down from the bush and drinking in groups .

Image

An eagle flew arround looking for its next meal
Image

While this Roller hunted bugs from a bush
Image

We waited to see what else would come to drink ...
