The next day it was off southerer, in the direction of Keetmanshoop!

A flooded river for a change!

The scenery began to change quite dramatically!

Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes, located in the southern part of the Namib Desert, in the Namib-Naukluft National Park of Namibia. As said, the landscape constantly changed as we headed steadily southerer...it is a truly vast and amazing country!

It is the strangest thing...I shall never forget for example, on a 100km stright stretch of dirt road from horizon to horizon, a giraffe coming from the side out of the semi-desert, all alone, and crossing the public road miles from any nature reserve!

Presently we were travelling amongst giant farms, all neatly fenced!

(Each farm must be about the size of Switzerland! )

One just stops on the side of the road to rest every few thousand km, without another soul in sight!

Chert looking very pleased with himself, the embarrassment of the Henties beach experience long-forgotten!

At last we arrived in Keetmanshoop, quite a large and quaint town. We enquired as to a camping ground and were directed to, of all things, an American Western establishment!

It was so nice we stayed for two days!
