SANParks ask for divine intervention to stop poaching
Divine intervention to curb rhino poaching

Divine intervention to curb rhino poaching
Rhino poaching has become a very serious problem in South Africa, with many rhinos killed over the years. Since the beginning of this year, 271 rhinos are reported to have been killed and, during the same time, 54 poachers were arrested in the Kruger National Park (KNP) alone.
In an effort to stop rhino poaching at the KNP, the management of the park joined hands with the local Malamulele pastors fraternity in prayer. The prayer meeting took place at the Shingwedzi Soccer Field last Saturday and clerics of different denominations from the surrounding villages took part in the prayer service.
Addressing the congregation, the head of public relations and communications of Sanparks, Mr William Mabasa, said they had done all in their power to stop the poaching, but it kept on occurring. He said they felt they should seek divine intervention, as God is the one who knows all and can even stop the poachers from their evil plans.
“We came here to ask God to intervene in this war that our country is currently facing. There is no doubt that indeed rhinos are under siege, but if we have God on our side, nothing is impossible,” said Mabasa.
He said the event was the first of its kind, where Christians came together in support of the KNP to declare war on rhino poachers. “We believe that if community structures stand up to fight rhino poaching, eventually poachers will be isolated,” he added.
He said they were doing everything possible to empower rangers and ensure that they have all the necessary skills and equipment required to patrol for 24 hours every day.

Re: Rhino Poaching
Finally they admit that there is a problem!
Had they used their grey matter long ago and did not deny that there was problem, they might not have needed the divine intervention now that they are asking for.

If it works I promise to become a believer“We came here to ask God to intervene in this war that our country is currently facing. There is no doubt that indeed rhinos are under siege, but if we have God on our side, nothing is impossible,” said Mabasa.

They are really touching the bottom

Maybe the poachers also pray, asking for divine intervention to show them where the rhinos are!

Re: Rhino moved to prevent poaching
I was wondering what a project like this would cost.
It will surely not at all be cheap and would it not be an option to pump that money in an APU there at the park to protect the Rhino's instead of re- locating them to another place where they can also be poached?
Just thinking out load here

From the WWF Website Link

Black Rhino Range Expansion Project
The Black Rhino Range Expansion Project aims to increase numbers and growth rate of the critically endangered black rhino. It does this through facilitating partnerships between landowners with good black rhino habitat. Often, neighbouring landowners must be willing to remove the internal fences between them.
Since the project began in 2003, seven new black rhino populations have been created in South Africa on more than 150 000ha of land. Nearly 120 black rhino have been translocated.
The black rhino is a flagship for creating larger blocks of land for conservation purposes. This benefits many other species, such as elephant, vultures, leopard tortoises and wild dogs.
In the 1960s, an estimated 65 000 black rhino were to be found across Africa. But a devastating poaching wave swept down the continent, wiping out nearly the entire population. At the lowest point in the early 1990s there were just over 2000 black rhino left. Thanks to intensive protection, that number is slowly increasing. There are now approximately 4000 black rhino. Unfortunately poaching remains an ever-present threat.
As well as creating new populations, the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project supports security of black rhino source populations by providing equipment for anti-poaching work, paying for helicopter hours when vets go out to treat snared black rhino, paying for rhino monitors and buying light aircraft for aerial surveillance.
The Black Rhino Range Expansion Project is a partnership between WWF, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Board. It is supported by the Mazda Wildlife Fund.
I know that there are reserves in KZN with Black rhino "overpopulation" id est to many Blackies to keep the sensitive sand forest intact, so this problem is adressed by the project, too. You can let the rhino breed happily and keep the population at a constant number by translocating.Black Rhino Range Expansion Project (BRREP)
Security is a critical part of rhino conservation but it is also essential to encourage rapid growth of rhino populations. This is being done through the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project which creates significant new black rhino populations. So far six founder populations of black rhino have been released on to new sites. Nearly 100 black rhino have been translocated, and more than 30 calves have been born on project sites.
More than a million rand was provided over the last year through WWF’s Black Rhino Range Expansion Project for rhino security on important rhino reserves in KwaZulu-Natal. This money was used for body armour, back packs, webbing, radios, binoculars, pepper sprays, motorcycles, light aircraft for aerial surveillance, camera traps, telemetry and radio equipment, crime scene investigation courses, and salaries for black rhino monitors. We also paid for helicopter time for 16 veterinary interventions on black rhinos that had been snared. All but one of these rhinos survived.
