Needs Attention: Kruger Park
Re: Needs Attention: Kruger Park
Correct, it was like that in September also when we were there
We spent 3 nights in the only GC6 at Skukuza and the bathroom light didn't work - reported it on the 1st day and when we left it still wasn't fixed - We used the bathroom for 3 days with a torch at R3365 per night for the unit

Maybe also suggest a percentage refund system when people don't get what they are paying for because then things may be checked before guests have to report them

Re: Needs Attention: Kruger Park
There were some bad problems at our recent Berg en Dal accommodation, but as said, maintenance has systemically broken down in that specific camp so I don't bother with it any more.
However, it seems that the status quo is for visitors to be harangued into reporting faults directly to the camp manager, who then sometimes sees to repairs/replacements and then receives lavish praise on social media etc. (Heaven help you if you try to report problems on social media, though...then you are told you are at the wrong place for doing so.)
This approach is terribly hit-and-miss and should be a very rare occurrence, as daily inspection by camp managers would prevent the unpleasant experiences in the first place. It seems that the idea is to let units totally fall apart and then rebuild/renovate them at a vastly greater cost than simple maintenance would entail, especially considering the inflated prices of big construction tenders and the time they waste.
I know of no other tourism establishments where problems are so basic and recurring, and people who do maintenance upon request are treated as though they are fish being applauded for swimming.
Accommodation is exorbitantly expensive in Kruger and paying that money should give a tourist every right to complain in any way they desire, they do not travel all that way to do site inspections after all, rather to relax.
Be that as it may, obviously we have done the same on this thread and will continue to do so in the absence of a coherent management strategy at SANParks.

Nothing new, apart from social media. Twelve years ago the situation was not much better. SANParks is always late and as RP says, to fix it costs much more.......of the taxpayers' money There must be a kind of "today is today and tomorrow we'll think about tomorrow" mentality. It just does not work like that in the world of today, if you want to have success

Re: Needs Attention: Kruger Park
Sadly it works for SANParks. They are usually almost fully booked and visitors don't have alternative destinations. There are no competitors who offer better accommodation in a big five reserve with self drive for the same rates.
Ezemvelo has the same issues and the private reserves are either much more expensive or have poor game viewing.
