CKGR - Besides the donkeys *
Driving up to Maun ,from Sabie, can be done in one long day. When you see this sign it makes you feel things are getting better.
Going out to Dinaka Safari Lodge in one of the Samil 50's to deliver supplies. Cruising in the central kalahari with no aircon, hot, but great view.
Time is still taken to observe the smaller things

Re: CKGR - Besides the donkeys
Look carefully that is elephant spoor.
Elephants cross into the northern central kalahari when it gets wet enough for them to head south from the swamps.
Rare sighting ...rain
but alas it never came down on Dinaka
One of the greatest joys in my life is to stand on the back of a bakkie , and cruise the bush late in the afternoon, looking for cats. Please do not put me into the gallery of shame, this is not KNP.

Eish
An African cat that looks wild Many out there to be seen after dark.
This one was well spotted -O
Apparently these make a good pie, according to Mr Diamond.
There are two resident pride males, William and Harry.
we had this one come walking past our sleeping platform.I was walking down the stairs when his eyes were spotted approaching in the dark

This is the platform out in the bush, with a waterhole in front of it.
The guy with his back to me is a Sanparks forumite who bugged me to let him tag along on my last trip. 8)

Not a domestic cat !
Anyway I am not a pure Kruger man , there are many lovely places to visit out there. Nothing better than going to a place where there are no other tourists 8) besides a certain cling on mite
NEXT THE SWAMPS

Re: CKGR - Besides the donkeys
Thanks everyone. Dinaka Safari Lodge shares a border with the northern fence of the Central Kalahari Game reserve. Before going to the swamps..
A daily visitor to the main lodge.
Came across this pair in broad daylight in the open, what love makes you do.
A useful piece of insurance for naps under a tree...you wake up feeling watched..
Busy looking at a leopard tortoise whilst being watched by her
more interesting and smaller prey caught her attention
Now to the swamps, will return later to Dinaka
off we go...
Safari guides , hunters etc are a responsible bunch when off duty in croc and hippo infested waters
who said there were hippo ???

Re: CKGR - Besides the donkeys
off to Moremi and Chobe we go..
There are a few puddles courtesy of Angola that get in the way
Love was in the air..
That lechwe pales in comparison to waterbuck
Giving me a dirty look
8) On the back of my Dinaka friend's cruiser in Moremi
You may not sit on the roof ,but may sit on a bench on the back of the bakkie  This was cleared with officials before entering.

Re: CKGR - Besides the donkeys
ok, back to the central kalahari then..
thanks for all the interest considering there are less than 100 of you here
There are many more photos on www.dinaka.com
Have a look for a photo of a leopard that regularly uses the platform to scout the area for game , there have been a couple of close shaves where the leopard has been up there without being seen , until it's too late and too close for comfort.

Re: CKGR - Besides the donkeys
Spoke to the owner of Dinaka tonight, told him to register and post some regular photos of life out in the central kalahari.
He mentioned that he had guests who could not get back to their lodging today, as there was a lion pride lying under their tent.

Richprins , it is much closer than you think. Martins Drift is a hassle free border post. There are no 'runners' trying to get bribes etc.
