Here the paper on the genus, would you check out the figures and the general shape
https://www.jstor.org/stable/41766916?s ... b_contents
Female Bisanthe
https://specimens.mantodearesearch.com/specimen/67
On inat the Bisanthe are ID'ed by pros (if you check the user profiles of the people who IDed), only recently after new members joined
So far I did not check the genus description of the early literature IF there is something
but my thoughts
black thick antennae
cerci sticking out
yellow margin of the wing
females have larger heads than males
decrease of pronotum length in the southern populations
Kaltenbachs key is only about the length of the pronotum and genitals

Re: AW Insect Book: Mantids (Mantodea) Pics & Descriptions
Looks spot on.
I will redo the entry according to the new 2019 revision with the classification as follows, correct?
Family: Chroicopteridae
Subfamily: Chroicopterinae
tribe: Chroicopterini
subtribe: Bisanthina
Genus: Bisanthe (Stal, 1876)
are we making it B. pulchripennis?
(The Chroicopteridae are a new (2019) family of praying mantids, based on the type genus Chroicoptera.)
Good catch there, Klippies

Re: AW Insect Book: Mantids (Mantodea) Pics & Descriptions
I am not certain at all
If you compare the wing length of the mantodea file photo - it does not extend much over the abdomen tip.
Do you consider the eye of your mantis round in shape?
The eye shape of the female in the file photo is different to yours, IMO
https://books.google.de/books?id=R4vZDw ... io&f=false
this reads: eyes somewhat projecting, rounded
Are our wings hyaline or opaque?

Re: AW Insect Book: Mantids (Mantodea) Pics & Descriptions
(Since I don't understand German, the descriptions are of no use to me, so I have to depend on your interpretations thereof.)
Below are pics of my mantid in question:
**********************************
These are pics of various Bisanthe sp. from a variety of sources:
B. lagrecai
B. menyharthi/male,female
B. pulchripennis/dorsal,ventral
B. pulchripennis/iNat. website pic
What do you see as the troubling features, please, so I can focus on those?

This says: 2 tubercles on the frontal shield
and you can see them here
and on the figure you have posted.
The white dots on the face of your mantis are reflections, I think?
Can you check if we have tubercles?

Re: AW Insect Book: Mantids (Mantodea) Pics & Descriptions
Ok, anyone else seing tubercles here?
Lisbeth?
I am more than confused
And then there is still the wing question.
Is the wing opaque green?
If not we would see through the forewing seeing the hind wing
I mean: is it a male or a female? Can we see a broad body from that angle?
And what about the prominent cerci
I'll now
