Re: Travel Advice for South Africa, Safety and Security
South Africa is the most dangerous country
South Africa is the riskiest country, with a rounded score of 508. With 36.40 homicides per 100,000 population annually, it has the highest rate of people dying by killing. It also does not score well in terms of life expectancy due to infectious diseases and road traffic deaths.
India comes in a somewhat unflattering 2nd place, with lack of sanitation as the deciding factor.
Third place goes to the Dominican Republic, which scores particularly poorly in terms of road deaths (64.6 per 100,000 inhabitants).
The top ten most dangerous countries are completed by Mexico (4th place), Brazil (5th), Cambodia (6th), Philippines (7th), Saudi Arabia (8th), Vietnam (9th) and Indonesia ( 10th).
Singapore has the lowest risks
According to the «Travel Safety Index», the safest country is Singapore, which gets top marks for hygienic conditions. The other top countries in terms of safety are Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Israel, Sweden, Austria, Ireland, Italy and Germany.
The «Travelbook» report criticizes the fact that some of the data used for the index dates back several years and predates the Covid pandemic.
The study also points out that the risk of traveling is not just self-selected: those who book a holiday at an all-inclusive luxury resort, for example, run a lower risk of suffering physical harm than those who stay in an area known for its crime or natural disasters.

Too true, we have more daily deaths than warzones like Ukraine.
