Hi all,
The Tusker Intwandamela recently died naturally on private land on the Western border of the Kruger Park.
What is of interest is the size of his tusks bearing in mind that he was sub-forty years of age.
I attach the Elephants Allive FB report on his death :-
We’ve received an incredible amount of love but also questions about Intwandamela’s passing.
A mature bull of over 35 years old, he chose one of the private nature reserves bordering the Kruger National Park as his final resting place.
His body, as well as the tracks surrounding it, showed signs of where his Askaris have tried to lift him up. As for us, it is hard for them to accept that he is gone. These marks speak to the care that elephants have towards each other, even amongst bulls. His spirit lives on in the young bulls he mentored.
We will attempt to keep track of the elephants that come to greet him and pay their respects.
If you have photos of Intwandamela that you would like to share, please email them to
marketing@elephantsalive.org or DM us for an upload link.
