but luckily they were widespread over the road and area so each passengers in the cars in the back of the queue still could enjoy the presence of the lions as well.

Image

Image

We even found a couple of larger cubs who were hanging around where we stood and so we also got pictures from them

Image

Image

and as the big male also the little ones were still tired.

Image

Image

Image

A bit further down the road

Image

another male was lying on the roadside

Image

and also here we had enough time to take even a couple of close ups

Image

before the larger cubs we just left moved closer to where we stood and finally joined this male.

Image

Image

Meanwhile the sun already rose and it got brighter and even most of the cars carried on so the biggest hustle and bustle was meanwhile over

consequently we had enough time to just stop and enjoy this wonderful morning sighting

Image

without blocking anybody’s view

Image

and on top the lions were extreme relaxed with all the cars who already passed by as they stayed onto the road quite long.

Image

Meanwhile we reached the end of the lions with a male all to ourselves

Image

and due to the many males we meanwhile photographed and watched we supposed it must have been more than one pride or even a large one.

Image

At least we parked to let also enough space for maybe other cars but most of the time we stayed alone with him and enjoyed the more and more upcoming sun illuminating everything into a fantastic light on top.

Image

Most of the lions meanwhile backtracked into the high grass but from time to time one of them stood up, checked the area and finally again disappeared out of sight.

Image

What a fantastic start into the morning and as often nobody staying at Satara who left the camp early in the morning could say “We did not see any lions”.

Image

It was still early enough so we allowed ourselves still a bit more time to stay a bit longer

Image

Image

as with the upcoming sun and heat it was only a question of time when all lions finally walked out of sight.

After a while we could drag ourselves away and for sure turned into the S100 although during the latest previous visits we saw not that much along this road but we died for driving finally a gravel road and we supposed when the S100 is open the S41 as well as the S90 must be open as well. We soon stopped for lots of European bee eaters,

Image

a lone hyena on a mission and also along this road the grass was once again extreme high.

Image

For sure wildebeests were around

Image

and even a lapped faced vulture,

Image

a huge elephant bull who chased a lot of starlings up.

Image

The light was perfect and we enjoyed this sighting extreme especially with the many birds buzzing around him.

Image

Image

We even discovered a burchell’coucal as often a bit hidden in a bush,

Image

European rollers were also along this road plentiful and to our joy we came across a yellow billed kite quite close to the road

Image

Image

but same unfortunately decided after a while to take off only to land a bit further down right on the road.

Image

Another impressive elephant bull showed up

and also presented its funny skills

Image

we are always happy when such massive animals also do show their tender sights

Image

Image

whilst allowing a couple of close ups as well.

Image

Image

Another Wahlberg eagle was around even extreme close,

Image

Image

as well as a long billed combrec,

Image

giraffes as well as vultures

Image

and many zebras.

Image

Surprisingly the general game was plentiful along the S100 and so were the raptors as we also stopped for another brown snake eagle,

Image

Image

and whilst photographing same a ground hornbill neared in flight.
