Lawson's Birding & Wildlife Safaris (Facebook)
Here's the full story of the Klipspringer:
A rather tragic event unfolded before our eyes on a recent 'Escarpment and Kruger' safari. We arrived at the causeway over the Letaba River in the Kruger NP and saw a Kilpspringer standing on a sand island in the river, a rather unusual place for a Klipspringer to be, as they are usually found on rocky outcrops, where their special hooves and climbing ability keep them safe from predators. She then started to cross the river, and we began shooting photos, just thinking that we'd get good shots of her splashing through the water. All went well until she reached a deep section of the channel, when a large Croc appeared out of nowhere. She had no chance, and in a flash they were completely submerged, with just a ripple on the water remaining for a few moments. Very sad to see, but in this lies the beauty of Africa's untouched wildernesses - they are vast, wild and brutal at times, but also serene and beautiful, and that's why we love them so much.
