Re: Floods Reveal Scandals in KNP Staff Villages
Ja but as usual this 'privaledge' NOT a RIGHT!! is being abused whereby instead of mommy coming to visit it is the whole village plus and including poachers and crooks etc...Time to tighten up , daily pre work inspections and roll calls of EACH unit...if you cant behave then you pay the price ...time to draw a thick line in the sandH. erectus wrote:Penny, let's not forget, staff are entitled to visitors, family bonding
etc.............We cannot deny these employees that priviledge!!!
Now under the umbrella off good governance that means we can just
reap???

By all means staff must be allowed guest, but then these guests must register in and out and park security must know who is in which villages at any given time, we can't have friends and extended families making staff villages their home. It is so loose at the moment that people just tell the gate they are going to such & such a villiage to visit so & so and they get waived through and stay in any villiage for however long they like.
The guys Sprocky escorted out of the park is a case in point.
I know SanParks management will say that they have rules and procedures in place, but the fact of the matter is that these rules and procedures are not followed.

Man was placed in charge and given the duty of caring for all creation, are we doing it?

That's it!! This is what happens. Because of the circumstances surrounding
the parks ie; security etc. we take a lot for granted. There is no double check
re-check system in place let alone a check system if any!!?

My Son used to work at Sun City and he lived in Staff accomodation. When we wanted to visit him he had to inform the permit office which is based just outside the staff entrance of our arrival. He had to give them: our names, ID numbers and car registration. On arriving, we had to present our Id books and our car registration was checked.
On one occasion he hadn't put in the request in time, ( had to be done 48hrs before arriving) and we were refused entry.
Sanparks could learn a lot from this. Yes, it was a pain at the time, but it certainly kept a check and a control on family visiting. Lets face it Sun City has nothing much to protect but the Kruger Park is priceless.

Could'nt agree more!Peter Betts wrote:For starters ...CLOSE THE POLITICAL 'THANK YOU' GATES OF GIRYONDO AND PAFURI BORDER GATE...want to go to Moz...Use Komatipoort...half of the proceeds of Gauteng crime go through these porous gates not to mention the road traffic with no control in Kruger...protect our Park, Protect our Rhinos, get Compound Managers to run staff villages...their behaviour shows that this isa minimum requirement

Just goes to show whinoceros, if you are serious then you can implement measures and keep control! All it takes is commitment, which is unfortunately lacking in SANParks!

Passing the buck .....that's why. Playing for time so they can come up with an explanation.Richprins wrote:During the excellent work done by various agencies in evacuating both tourists and staff from various camps or compounds during the recent floods in Kruger National Park, some shocking discoveries were made.
Illegal tenants inhabiting certain staff accommodations, including Mozambiquan nationals.
Rhino horn and related poaching equipment.
Other forms of contraband.
Kruger has refused to comment on the matter, stating that as rhino poaching is involved, all queries will be handled by the Department of Environmental Affairs.
Police queried gave the same answer.
My question is this: Why should the presence of illegal aliens in a Parastatal housing complex have to be addressed by the DEA?
Re: Floods Reveal Scandals in KNP Staff Villages
They were quick to send out a release of poaching in the Pafuri region while still dealing with floods without going through DEA, yet can't answer now.
Am so tired of this cap in hand begging for funds for rhino poaching, getting drones etc to fight the poaching. Everybody else is pulling their weight, but it comes to nought because Sanparks don't feel it important enough to control access in their staff villages.

I believe (first hand) that this issue has been copied across to SPF, wonder how long it will last there?
