Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
So that means that we'll experience an average increase of R 100 per night
throughout the camps in KTP for 2014 after we had approx the same increase from 2012 to 2013.

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
This is getting out of my league, so I’m going to do fewer trips to Kruger in the future, or stay outside the park where better accommodation is available for far less.

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
Weird, this pricing latest...looks like Eskom!
It seems prices up until end Oct 2014 are promised to stay the same after this increase...like that's going to happen!
Berg&Dal, for example!
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2012-11-01 2013-10-31 R865 1-2 3 R186 R93
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2013-11-01 2013-12-03 R970 1-2 3 R200 R100
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2013-12-04 2014-01-12 R970 1-2 3 R200 R100
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2014-01-13 2014-03-19 R930 1-2 3 R200 R100
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2014-03-20 2014-10-11 R970 1-2 3 R200 R100
Bungalow (BA3) 34 2014-10-12 2014-10-31 R970 1-2 3 R200 R100
A R40 discount in off-season for the first 2 visitors...whoopee...no discount for the rest of the family, though?
A nearly 11% increase, compared to .gov inflation rate of about 5.5% max?

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
It is getting pricey but still cheaper than other parks, eg. Hluhluwe/Imfolozi and Pilanesberg.

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
I agree Flutts, but the quality of accommodation is deteriorating, so have the increases been justified over the years and there’s alternate 4 star accommodation just outside the park which is cheaper, so are SANParks pricing themselves out of the market

There you're right...the standard of accommodation leaves a lot to be desired!

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
We paid R880 for a night in a KTP wilderness camp in March 2010 which
I thought quite stiff for SA. But I was more than happy to pay it as we are
talking about a remote area where infrastructure can't be taken for granted.
In March 2014 we willl have to pay R1270 for the very same accomm with the very
same standard of maintainance. Read: Clean units but some corners / parts
are run down in a way that the camp manager will not be able to fix is as
part of his duty.

Re: Sanparks Tariffs 2013 - 2014
KNP has no excuses regarding camps being remote. Why I say this, is that in the ancient past maintenance was largely not an issue, and "in-house" repairs were just done by the Park, no matter where, under the same budget! Simple!
Had an experience of this being done at Roodewal chop-chop re. small things last year!

SANParks tariffs 2014
I have just returned from 9 nights in KNP and my accommodation for 2 adults and 3 kids under the age of 12 was R 14 783.37 and this included 3 nights in the "cheap" Lower Sabie huts.
If I booked the same trip for next year April it would cost me R 17003.35
If one considers the maintenance issues with many units, I don’t know how SANParks can justify these price increases over the last 5 years as the accommodation costs have doubled in that time.
Sorry, I’m not trying to point out all the “doom and gloom”, but Kruger is no longer affordable unless you camp and it’s going to force me to look elsewhere for a family holiday, or only go once a year
