Great rhebok sighting....not so easy to find.!

PJL, I think that lately your luck is even bigger than usually....Aardwolf, aardvark and now grey rhebok Not to forget about your "normal" sightings like the various lions at Addo and the cheetah kittens I have probably forgotten something Couple of bushpigs

Would you mind posting them in our "Mamals" like you have already done with Aardwolf?

Great couple of posts about your drive into the mountains and Grey Rhebok was your reward.

The grey rhebok and the mountain reedbuck seem to get scarcer with the cheetah population taking a liking in them according to Charl. So, every sighting is a bliss
That's obviously also the reason that quite a few of the cheetahs were relocated. There were only 6 adults in the park left when we were there in April.

Nice you got rhebok & the fish eagle... I presume it must be a regular visitor to Doornhoek Dam. Did you see it there whilst staying in the guest house?
It must be tricky trying to manage the population of predators if they start hitting some species hard. 6 adult cheetah isn't many

There's a big dam across from the guest house that Mel stayed in - presumably that's where the fish eagle goes fishing... good to see it in the park

Lis I think you're correct... somehow our luck has been unbelievably good. I've been totally blown away by everything we've seen in July/August this year - if I didn't have some of the photos I would probably think I dreamt some of it
I will definitely add some pics to the mammals section in due course

One of the species D was really keen to try and find was bat-eared foxes. I'm not sure if their numbers have declined in Addo, but it has been more than 5 years since I last saw one there, and we had heard that the Ubejane loop was potentially a good area to spot them. Of course, it's not a zoo so there's never any guarantee but we decided to plan our evening drive around that area.

We started out along the main road where we found a kudu pulling a funny face



Further along there was a pale chanting goshawk on the ground.



Continuing along the main road we were starting to scan the area really carefully in the hope of spotting BEFs, but as is often the case when you're looking specifically for something you see everything else instead
Approaching the exit gate we saw a steenbok - another first for us in MZ



There were also a few springbok around



After turning around at the gate we headed back in the direction of Ubejane when we spotted a smaller creature off to one side. I couldn't believe our luck - another aardwolf













3 incredible aardwolf sightings in 3 days... they were almost becoming common

On Ubejane there was no sign of BEFs but we finally got to see the meerkat clan up close which was a treat









By the time we got back to camp the temperatures were dropping again but before long we were toasting ourselves nicely in front of the fire
