The adults food source is as alluded to above " decaying organic matter/carrion, or feces ", but that would also include the class of stinky mushrooms that smell like carrion, etc.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly

I assume the fungus belongs to Phallaceae, maybe sort of Itajahya and this clever chap produces this smelly slimy mass to attract flies for dispersal of the spores, as with all living things they want to reproduce :-0

So wo do agree that we have a Sarcophagidae fly feeding on a foul-smelling meal ^Q^

Now we do the final ID for this one!

So far we know it is in the family Sarcophagidae and it feeds on the stinky spore mass of a fungus.

ExFmem also noted the orange/red tail!
