The above from Heksie's TR here: viewtopic.php?f=46&t=2879&start=120

Now the question is....

Are the lionesses involved pregnant or just recently well-fed? -O-

If pregnant, this is interesting as it would seem to suggest that they have been left behind to deal with someone else's cubs, hence the difficulty?

Cubs this size should still be hidden by their mom, or in the process of being introduced to the pride.

On the other hand, when prides go off to hunt, they leave all youngsters with "responsible adults", which may take many hours. The cubs suckle on any available source, and it's not a problem.

In this case, Heksie says there was a subadult male with them, which may have triggered the instinct of the "moms" to move the cubs, as new pride males kill cubs?

The subadult male would not have had a clue in this regard, I think?

All very confusing! -O-

Another note:
The previous day when I found them in the stream-bed they were about 1km from where we saw 2 full grown male lions and another female... So are they all part of the same pride? I wouldn't think they would be so close to other lions? -O-

Was there any sign of them eating/having ate?

No blood on the animals' mouths...it's often a mess for a long while?
