I think at that stage it was classed as 'dormant' but now 'extinct'
I think it's only about a 600m climb up, but it was really steep to get up onto the sides

Dwarf beaked snake Dipsina multimaculata
A small snake with a distinctive hooked snout. The colour is extremely variable ranging from sandy grey to red with a series of broad spots. There is also a distinctive V-shaped marking on the back of the head.
These snakes are active during the day when they hunt small lizards. When threatened the dwarf beaked snake will hiss loudly and strike out repeatedly mimicking the venomous horned adder.
They are considered to be mildly venomous, however the venom as no effect on man.
