There's a main car park where the standard vehicles can park, and then access into the different vleis is strictly for 4x4 vehicles. There was a shuttle service but we were poor students so decided to walk
As luck would have it an Israeli couple with a nice air conditioned 4x4 picked us up and gave us a lift to the main area where we were able to explore all the areas
You were lucky to find a lift; it must be rather hot walking around there There are a lot of sand dunes
