I had the same in the north, saw the Boon several days in a row... with the dead one

Just before the N’Watimhiri Causeway we spotted a lions off to the side

I', getting a bit concerned about your spelling and want you to go back over your report and do corrections, SN...

Ja, the baboon carrying the dead baby is quite a well-known phenomenon amongst them. They are socially very intelligent!

It stresses the leaders out, obviously...

Really fascinating behaviour by the baboon female Supernova. Two weeks seems like a long time. I wonder if she was a first-time mother? Given the youngster's size do you think it was still-born?

Love the LIT pics! Good job braving the traffic jam to get them. What is the ettiquette at such sightings? If i was one of the first there i wouldn't be in a hurry to leave, though i can understand other people wanting a chance to enjoy it too.

@ Richprins & nan: Thanks for the info, this is the third time we have seen this happen, a sad but interesting sighting.

@Ratel : Not sure what the greater communities views are on sighting etiquette, we have our own…

Even if you are the first at the sighting (which we often are), position yourself so that you do not block the sighting for others, spend a reasonable time in the prime spot, then move on and allow others to also enjoy the sighting. What I find frustrating is those that place a large vehicle in a position that blocks the sighting for all others and then sits in that space for hours.

The theory is that one must stop on the side that the sighting is on, regardless of which way you are going...not sure why that is?

Agreed on the sighting etiquette story. Those with glue on their bums that hog sightings drive me crazy. Some will sit there the entire day

Day 6 – 18th August 2016

This being out last day in the Skukuza area, we tried the western route to look for Wild Dogs, so we took the H3, S114, S112, h3 loop, the drive was mostly quiet

Except for one lion sighting, you will have to look hard to find it, was able to get a closer picture with the long lens.

We returned to Skukuza by 09h00, so took a drive down the H4-1, at Alpha loop, about 8 OSV’s came flying past and went down Alpha loop, we followed for a few minutes, then spotted lions walking back towards the H4-1, lucky the OSVs didn’t spot them, so we u-turned and headed back.

A Lion couple came out the bush towards us, and it was great as now we were the only ones there.

As the lioness approached the car she stopped

She spotted a small herd of Impala on the other side of the road

Then she started the stalk, using the car as cover
