That first lion has found a nice quite place to do what lions do best

Day 6 – 18th August 2016 (continued)
The lioness stood dead still and waited...
Then she took off over the ridge…
She headed for the first impala at full speed
As the dust cleared, she emerged empty handed
They both headed back up towards the road
And put on a show for all who were watching, It seems that the male was not too interested in eating

SN!
What a rush!
The couples can carry on for days, I was at Vutome once and the woman came down just for a drink and a rest in the shade near our car...she couldn't take it anymore...the male didn't even drink in the heat, just watched us forlornly from the bush!
The lionesses are programmed to hunt should any opportunity arise, IMO. (Very instinctive)

Day 6 – 18th August 2016 (continued)
With the morning excitement, over, we headed back to Skukuza to catch up on some breakfast and a few calls
Followed by the annual Statue photo.
This being our last day at Skukuza before moving down to Berg en dal, we took an afternoon drive down to the S79 (N’Watimhiri Cswy) and back. The Marabou’s were at the Skukuza dump.
The mating Lion couple were still down by the river as we could see them through the bush and it seemed they were settled for the afternoon, so we continued, only the find the rest of their family a few kilos down.
They were on the road edge but also not going to be moving soon
We stopped for a few Ellie herds and this guy who acted irritated at us for being in his way
At the N’Watimhiri bridge, we spent a few minutes watching a Lion family with cubs, the parents were trying to sleep but the cubs just wanted to play.

Lots of lions around. Great action with the mating pair.
