Malamulele - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation – the Hawks – on Tuesday said a 28-year-old Mozambican man was caught at the weekend with two elephant tusks hidden in maize meal bags in his car.
The suspect was entering the Kruger National Park through Punda Maria gate when he was stopped by park rangers.
During the search of his car, rangers uncovered two elephant tusks hidden in the back of the suspect’s vehicle. The tusks were hidden inside maize meal bags," said Captain Matimba Maluleke.
The suspect will appear before the Malamulele Magistrate Court on Tuesday for unlawful possession of elephant tusks.

Elephant poaching has increased at an escalating rate in the northern region of the KNP. This week another arrest has been made.
