I found these four (or maybe five :-? ) near Gardenia hide
12.11.2009

was a troup of Ellies nearby... but nothing seems to awake them 0*\

Often see lions with a blind eye, but they seem to do well enough. -O-

I met these Lions on the road, in the rain
I think I was the only one to be outside ;-) till a car comes in front... and all the troup goes down to the river bed 0*\
I follow them for a long time, it was just before Olifants on the 17.4.2011
one female was collared

A lot of possibilities, only my opinions.

Young lions learn early it is pointless to try to eat the tortoises. This one is adult, and they can eat them, but I think that this lioness has been chased away from a kill, judging by the blood around the mouth, and the fresh leg wound. Lion aren't very intelligent, unless it comes to being absolutely expert killers, so they run on instinct...hence this one being frustrated and confused?

Very interesting the ears held back in the other pics! Maybe focusing on the trouble she has just come from? -O-
