Did you notice the jackal in your first pic in front of the waterbuck? ;-)

Fantastic that you got to see a brown hyena! \O We've only seen 2 in Pilanesberg but never managed to get a pic!

Plenty of rare sightings! :-0

Interesting that theoretically both jackal and steenbok mate for life... :-)
Very interesting fact there R.P.. I knew about steenbok but not the BBJ.. ^Q^
Peter Betts wrote: Sun Oct 14, 2018 9:02 am Great sightings here and to see a Brown Hyena is very privaleged ..While no large mammals were killed you can be sure that the toll amongst the snakes, Tortoise, rats and Mice, Nesting Birds , Insects , etc would have been huge ..Very sad
Hi Peter and welcome on board. I agree that the small animal loss of life must have been plenty.

Lisbeth wrote: Sun Oct 14, 2018 10:25 am Great to hear from you again STF

It was very sad news, when we heard about the Pilanesberg burning and re your map it does look as if it was more widespread than we were told

Nobody is getting younger We can only try to do as if

Some nice sightings though
Thank you Lisbeth.

Hi Flutterby. Yes we did. We also got photos of him walking towards the waterbuck. Thought we might see a waterbuck kill. 0- 0-

6 October 2018.

My second favourite bird.

We have been told that elephant love chewing on the burnt branches as the sap inside caramelizes from the heat and that they love it.
Can anyone confirm this?

A peaceful scene on the shores of Mankwe Dam.

A very , very sad sight. That lovely wooden walkway to Mankwe Hide and the hide burnt to the ground. :-( :-(

Two fish eagle surveying the devastation.

Coming up next.

We were told that the central pride were sleeping under a tree on Tshepe Drive and only about 30 metres from the road so we went off to look for them.

The lilac-breasted roller is your favourite ;-)

The elephant on the shore of the dam has nice tusks \O

A great pity that the Mankwe Hide was completely destroyed, but I trust that it will be re-built......if they will have the money -O-

What a fat horn on the rhino! \O

Ja, they should have insurance on the hide...but they must do some work on the tar roads first. I am cautious about NWPB's finances...

Hi Lisbeth. Your memory is fantastic. Yes, the LBR is my favourite.

I would like to make the suggestion that they make it an overnight hide.

I think they said that there was insurance - but how much. I know Heinrich Neumeyer, the leopard whisperer of Pilanesberg, is asking for everyone to submit their photos of leopards. They will then publish a calendar and all proceeds will go to the Mankwe Hide rebuild fund.

If my memory serves me correctly I think the request for SANParks to take over. Good idea me thinks.
