On that day we were even surprised somewhere by a wonderful rhino sighting. First the two of them stayed a bit hidden in the vegetation but after a while first the nearly grown calf crossed the street
followed by its mother. It is such a precious moment whenever such grey beauties came across.
Although it was meanwhile only 08.00 o’clock it was one of those days where it was at that time of the day already that unbearably hot so we were prepared that the sightings might not be that plentiful that day so we better concentrate again on waterholes or dams which might come across which turned out to be a wise decision.
At least first we were held up by an elephant herd out of which most of the members
were feeding
and luckily we again spotted a klipspringer on one of the large koppies along the way
before we reached Leeupan where we still noted an elephant herd who just left the pan and it looked as if still a bit water was left but only in the background as in front a large grass wall was hiding the water at least the warthog revealed that there was still water left.
We were about to change our position when we were stopped by a couple in a car who told us about lions come and go but same had just been chased away by the elephants so if we might wait they might come out again. As it still was early and we are normally patient we waited but in fact not that long when we noted a movement between a couple of bushes in the shade
and we still had the hope that at least one of them might show up although we had no high expectations as the temperatures still were rising so we in between photographed one of the black smith plovers.
We then in fact had luck as one of the lionesses popped out of the bushes and even came closer and closer only to turn around to join again the other members of the pride in the shade
but only shortly another lioness appeared on the scene and she also came closer and closer
under the watchful eyes of an impala whilst the other impalas stayed understandably a bit in the background.
