24th Lower Sabie to Skukuza
We woke to an even colder day and the wind was pumping, so the walk to the public ablutions and the car packing mission wasn’t pleasant. It was also Heritage Day, so besides the fact it was school holidays, it was also a public holiday, and therefore I was very nervous about what the day would bring.
We drove out of Lower Sabie just after 6am and there was a mini traffic jam at Sunset Dam already as a clan of hyena were charging around shrieking their heads off. I ducked past the main part of the clan to escape the early gang of cars and one of the Rats quickly snapped a pic of 1 hyena on the edge of the chaos before moving on.

We stopped again at Lubyelubye rocks as a few lion cubs were sitting on the top, but as we drove into the little dirt loop 2 got up and ducked over the back of the rocks, however 1 junior hung around long enough for us to manage a proof pic in the bad light.

Around 2km later we stopped for a male lion in thick bush and another blurred proof pic is all we could get as the cameras just wouldn’t focus on the lion through the twigs in the dark conditions.

I was about to pull off when the lion suddenly started roaring and the Cow got in a flap as she likes to video the roaring, but fortunately he let rip again. He then got up and headed down into the riverbed and out of sight, so I pulled off, however hit the brakes again 200m up the road as 3 males were heading straight towards us.
